[00:00:01] Welcome to Excellent Rising. I am Anna Mael.
[00:00:04] Let's begin with this.
[00:00:06] What if the obsession with self care is no longer care, but emotional neglect disguised as, uh, self development?
[00:00:15] And what happens when entire society turns inward in the name of self care and forgets to look what's around what's around your city, what's around your neighborhood, what's happening in your country?
[00:00:31] And I'm saying this as somatic therapist for PTSD and trauma recovery, not as someone who wants you to burn out or abandon yourself.
[00:00:42] Self care is important. I believe in the body. I believe in regulation, in somatic safety.
[00:00:49] But when self care becomes another excuse to stay ignorant in the face of injustice, if self care becomes a tool where you numb yourself and dissociate, when you're not able to see what's happening around you because you're using self care as excuse, something is gone terrible, uh, wrong.
[00:01:18] Especially if you can see the craze about the self care industry now.
[00:01:24] So let's name it.
[00:01:26] The over consumption of healing content, the endless retreats, the spiritual bypassing the daily rituals that become aesthetic performance, has led to a generation of emotional numbed people.
[00:01:46] Completely emotional numbed people, self absorbed people, um, nations of, ah, narcissists who quote unquote, are spiritual.
[00:01:59] So yes, you can meditate for hours and you can ignore genocide, you can ignore what's happening in your country.
[00:02:06] You can do breath work every day and still avoid witnessing start of the tyranny in your own country, in your own city.
[00:02:15] You can journal about boundaries and, and still not intervene when a child or a woman is being abused across the street or taken away from undocumented parents.
[00:02:29] So when self focus becomes self isolation and self ignorance, and when emotional numbing is masked as a spiritual practice, as self development, self work, self healing, we are not healing.
[00:02:51] We are retreating from moral responsibility.
[00:02:55] Okay, for human responsibility.
[00:02:59] And what happens, uh, when self care is reduced to affirmations, toxic positivity, manifestation boards, weakened retreats, well, what happens? You get a performance, right? You get a curated version of healing. And what you don't get is a nervous system regulation. You don't get trauma healing, you don't get the justice.
[00:03:28] You don't get, um, repair.
[00:03:32] And most dangerously, people start bypassing their inner work by consuming more healing content.
[00:03:42] And over consumption becomes a form of emotional avoidance and numbing.
[00:03:49] It's almost people are coming, becoming possessed with self healing, uh, and that leads to internal fragmentation.
[00:04:02] So now we have our clients coming to us therapists who are saying, I've read every Trauma book. I go to every online summit. I went to every single retreat.
[00:04:14] And still something is wrong with me. Why I'm still not okay.
[00:04:19] So now we have a client who is failing, who thinks he's failing even on a healing journey.
[00:04:29] So you're not healing, you're performing the idea, uh, of healing, which is pushed to you by self care industry or influencers or brands who are using your trauma to make their brand. Which is okay, to make money, absolutely, you need to make money.
[00:04:55] But when this is not done in the right way, we are getting to a place of emotional numbing.
[00:05:04] And emotional numbing breeds societal apathy. And apathy is very dangerous because numb individuals create numb societies.
[00:05:18] Okay, so let me repeat. Numb individuals create numb societies.
[00:05:25] And when millions of people are emotionally numb, what rises is apathy. It's very similar to occult.
[00:05:35] So not because people are bad, people want to heal.
[00:05:39] M. But what's happening, you get so overwhelmed.
[00:05:44] Everyone around you is on a self healing journey.
[00:05:49] Everything you need to manifest everything is right. Frequency there is all around us a spiritual bypassing. We become more numb, we become more disconnected, okay, in between us here, me and me, me and someone else.
[00:06:05] And when people over consume and under integrate their emotional bandwidth narrows, okay?
[00:06:16] Your capacities to regulate narrows. And then you become a numb.
[00:06:23] And here there is this great aura, ah, about fantasy healing. How you're going to be transformed once you do this course or once you do this summit over the weekend, right? But it's not happening. And then you want to do more and more and more.
[00:06:44] So many people on their journey, they're feeling as they're personal, they're failing.
[00:06:51] But this is systemic result, okay, because of self care industry, which went in completely wrong, wrong way, okay? And spiritual bypassing.
[00:07:07] So then we are taught to internalize discomfort as a personal, uh, uh, pathology, right, Rather than to recognize what's collective grief, what's tyranny. Look what's happening in the US what's exile, what's censorship, what's betrayal of country, right? What's betrayal inside the family?
[00:07:40] So when emotional numbing becomes widespread, our uh, society begins to lose empathic reflex and it stops seeing the suffering of others.
[00:07:57] So this is very, very dangerous people.
[00:07:59] Again, the best example is United States now, okay?
[00:08:07] And apathy.
[00:08:10] Apathy can look like you're looking scrolling down. You're seeing, you're seeing what's happening. The war zones, genocide. But you're just whispering your affirmation or you just scroll down. You don't want to even stop. You don't Want to even witness people stop, skip human responsibility because their boundaries are sacred.
[00:08:38] So a person can collapse next to you on the street.
[00:08:44] And this is what happened in Canada, in Toronto a couple years ago. Canadians. If you can help me to retrieve that link.
[00:08:51] A woman collapsed in the parking lot. Five men. They took the cell phone and they start recording. And this is not the freeze and numbness.
[00:09:00] This was five people. They took their cell phone. They decide I will press record button. And they were recording a woman in deep distress without calling 911 and helping her.
[00:09:14] True story.
[00:09:17] Okay?
[00:09:20] Maybe they were protecting their aura, okay? When you hear someone speaking truth and you just look away or leave because it's too much discomfort in your body, right? You can't handle it, their capacities are so narrowed, okay?
[00:09:40] Or if you witness a neighbor's being deported and you go to do another self care ritual to avoid feeling the grief or betrayal, okay?
[00:09:58] So apathy becomes default.
[00:10:02] And apathy is not neutral.
[00:10:04] It's very, very dangerous.
[00:10:07] It's very dangerous because it's the fertile ground in which tyranny grows.
[00:10:15] Okay?
[00:10:18] This is what your leaders, not good leaders, okay? This is what they want.
[00:10:26] They want numb people around you, okay?
[00:10:35] They want people who are almost in a, uh, state of being in a cult while you're still thinking. You're still thinking you're doing something nice for yourself. You are on your spiritual path. You're on your self healing journey and development.
[00:10:53] Actually, no, you're not.
[00:10:56] You're on your journey of self delusion and self denial.
[00:11:01] And then you're making this perfect soil for detectorship for someone who will come above you and start with the tyranny. Okay?
[00:11:17] So apathy makes room for tyranny, okay? And fascism does not begin with guns. It does not begin with guns.
[00:11:27] It begins with disinterest.
[00:11:30] It begins with people saying it's not my business.
[00:11:34] It begins with spiritual influencers telling you to stay in your own frequency. Or someone who would say, not my monkeys, not my circus.
[00:11:43] Okay? And by the time the surveillance begins, the bans are signed, the silence is normalized, it's too late because we were too busy healing to notice the harm.
[00:11:57] Too busy with our self care to practice collective care as well. So we need to do both.
[00:12:04] Collective care is missing.
[00:12:06] So self care becomes a new religion. It becomes a new cult, okay? Too busy with our self care to practice collective care.
[00:12:18] So self care has become the new religion.
[00:12:22] And the price of that religion is our humanity. And this is not a good religion. This is not a good church.
[00:12:29] So I'm not saying don't do self care, but don't do self care as your way of avoiding responsibility as a human, okay?
[00:12:47] Because society is marked by emotional disengagement, silence and ignorance and over emphasis on individual. Well, uh, being becomes ripe for authoritarian regime.
[00:13:05] Okay?
[00:13:07] And tyranny doesn't rise only through the violence.
[00:13:12] It rises through the mass distractions. Okay, so first spiritual bypassing cult of self care.
[00:13:22] Then you will see on the uh. Just watch the TV shows, okay? It will be mass production of TV novellas, TV shows, romance, gambling will be a lot rise. Rise of gambling.
[00:13:39] So there is a massive numbing out.
[00:13:42] And this is a state of uh, uh, um.
[00:13:46] It is a state of uh.
[00:13:49] It's a cult mindset.
[00:13:53] And tyranny thrives when good people are numbed.
[00:13:58] So think about also who is feeding that self care industry and why that obsession with self.
[00:14:08] So you don't open your eyes and look around what's happening and who is benefiting from that. So you don't speak truth to power.
[00:14:21] So you don't stand up for what is right, for what is just what needs to be done.
[00:14:29] Don't get played.
[00:14:33] Look, United States. Oh my God. Democracy. There is no any democracy. If you're looking from uh, uh, uh.
[00:14:42] This would be since. So since Barack Obama was president. So we had Trump four years, they had Trump four years, Biden four and now Trump again. So this will be a 12 years of presidents who are 80 plus.
[00:15:06] Isn't that scary?
[00:15:09] Where is the age group of people between 35 and 65 in their prime years?
[00:15:20] Where are those people occupied with meditation, fluffing feathers, smudging sage.
[00:15:34] And then if there is someone who would say hey, let's do something, maybe the partner will come in and say don't, don't ruin my frequency.
[00:15:44] Your energy is just not okay with me.
[00:15:47] Let's just sign up for another retreat.
[00:15:51] Think about that country.
[00:15:54] 12 years.
[00:15:56] 12 years.
[00:16:01] Okay? Two men age of 80 plus running a country. So where is this mass of people in the prime years?
[00:16:14] Nambi numb.
[00:16:18] Okay? Numb. It's so scary.
[00:16:21] So look at this.
[00:16:25] The more we have spiritual bypassing, the more we have self care obsession, the more apathy we have, the more numb society we have here.
[00:16:40] Which is excellent field like you want to numb um, out those people in their prime years. Why not?
[00:16:49] So those 1 even less than 1 percenters can do what they want to do.
[00:16:59] Tyranny.
[00:17:05] You think North Korea is bad?
[00:17:09] Or Cuba?
[00:17:11] I don't know. I feel sorry for many people in for all people in United States.
[00:17:17] What the heck?
[00:17:19] Wake up, okay?
[00:17:27] Wake up.
[00:17:30] Because if you confuse spiritual neutrality with moral integrity, it's. I mean, it's. It's not. Okay, you're not spiritual if you are losing the sense of. If you're losing the sense of what's. What's right, what's wrong, okay?
[00:18:00] And you cannot reclaim your nervous system while abandoning your neighbor.
[00:18:06] You cannot heal your trauma while abandoning your brother, your sister, your community.
[00:18:16] Self care without social awareness is emotional neglect. And as a human, you. You're failing.
[00:18:28] It's awful.
[00:18:30] And there is nothing spiritual about this. And there is nothing healing about this.
[00:18:35] Okay? So numbing leads to apathy, Apathy leads to self delusion and ignorance.
[00:18:46] Ignorance. Your ignorance now enables the system of control.
[00:18:54] Perfect. Because no one is noticing, no one is questioning, no one is speaking out. Maybe 2%, 5%.
[00:19:03] And tyranny rises when citizens. You prioritize personal peace over public justice or moral bravery.
[00:19:18] And real healing is not always pretty. It's messy, it's relational, it's embodied, and it's deeply political.
[00:19:26] It needs to be just because it's relational.
[00:19:30] And the self care industry is not healing you, it's numbing you. Okay? So numbing is not peace, silence, and ignorance is not safety. It's going back to the trauma and staying in trauma.
[00:19:44] Okay, don't get played. Don't get played.
[00:19:56] So this is not a call to abandon your healing or to abandon your proper self care, okay?
[00:20:03] Yes to the proper self care, not to the ignorance and obsession with self care while someone next to you is dying.
[00:20:13] So this is a call to restore the balance.
[00:20:17] And healing is not complete unless it leads you back to the humanity, to community, to doing what is just to standing up.
[00:20:28] Even if your voice shakes. This is not easy.
[00:20:33] I would rather be only with my clients.
[00:20:42] I don't exist on social media except on podcast and on, um, YouTube. Podcast.
[00:20:48] And I just started this two months ago.
[00:20:53] But what's my responsibility?
[00:20:58] So there is a time when you need to step up.
[00:21:05] Even it's not easy. Your chemistry is changing. Like, you need to be exposed, but you need to tell the truth to flower.
[00:21:13] You need to wake up, uh, people who are around you. I mean, it's very clear.
[00:21:18] Okay, so everyone who is just observing, observing.
[00:21:23] Stop observing.
[00:21:25] Okay? You have a voice, you have intelligence.
[00:21:29] You have eyes. Get educated. Just don't get played. Don't numb out.
[00:21:35] Don't numb out.
[00:21:42] Speak. Even your nervous system trembles.
[00:21:47] Stand with.
[00:21:49] With the ones who are being erased, who are being exiled. This Podcast is exiled and rising.
[00:21:57] Don't let anyone exile you again, okay?
[00:22:03] Self care in a healthy way.
[00:22:07] And solidarity, kinship.
[00:22:11] This is how we heal, okay?
[00:22:17] This is how we regulate so we can rise.
[00:22:21] And this is what I teach in my practice.
[00:22:24] And this is truly what I believe as someone who has survived a genocide, exile, war, refugees. For so many years, I was stateless, undocumented.
[00:22:38] And healing that forgets justice is not complete healing.
[00:22:43] It's not.
[00:22:44] And justice is not revenge. It's relational repair. It means speaking your truth.
[00:22:52] It's having that moral clarity, knowing, okay, this is what is right.
[00:22:59] And something is clearly off here and calling up on the bullshit. And you see the bullshit.
[00:23:07] So healing that forgets justice in a healthy sense. Justice is not healing. It's comfort on top of it's comfort on top of ignorance.
[00:23:20] And you were not born just to be comfortable.
[00:23:25] You were born to be, uh, awake, to be alive, to know your boundaries and when you see injustice, to call, to call upon people who are not doing the right things, to be accountable and responsible citizen.
[00:23:43] Okay, so let's not lose our humanity in the name of healing and spiritual journey.
[00:23:53] No, that's fantasy healing.
[00:23:56] Okay, so please share this episode with someone who needs a reminder that true healing brings us closer to humanity, not away from it.
[00:24:14] Okay, we heal when we heal in between and in relational field.
